Valentine's Day

I was planning on getting my nose pierced this Valentine's Day, but my sister reminded me how they pierce your nose; with a long stick/wire thing. Yeah, now I don't know. It's a good thing that I have a month to think about it.

The reason for getting my nose pierced was when my dad was alive, I told him I wanted one at the age of 18. He said, "No, you're pretty as it is. Why do you want to mess up your face? That's also unprofessional at work." I wanted his approval so I wasn't going to go behind his back and my dad discouraged me, of course. Now that he isn't around to tell me what to do, I feel like this is my chance to express myself. I really want it. I have to see if my fear of that stick/wire thing is less than my desire to have it. We'll see.

I normally don't celebrate Valentine's Day because right now I'm single but even when I was taken, the guys I was with didn't really celebrate it. My last boyfriend didn't want to get me roses because he said, "Roses die." I replied with, "But so do we!" What an excuse he made up. The boyfriend before that didn't really get me anything like flowers, chocolate covered strawberries (my favorite), chocolate candy, balloons, stuffed animals, or an engagement ring (giggles). The audacity! There are so many options. I don't understand why I attracted cheap dates.

Luckily, my first two boyfriends were extremely romantic and went all out with candy, flowers, poems, cards, the whole nine yards. That was when I was 14 and 18. I miss being a teenager in love and receiving the same love back. Guys, nowadays, aren't romantic or at least the ones I pick.

I'll be celebrating Valentine's Day this year with myself, my mom and my sister. The three favorite ladies in my life. I haven't thought of telling my mom about getting my nose pierced. That's something she'll have to accept. I don't have nor want to get tattoos and I have my own personal reasons for not having any, but a piercing, that's nothing (smiles).
