Two Days (Tuesday)

Two days after I applied to a position at CityMD, I received an email from a job recruiter, Lauren, scheduling a date and time for a phone interview. Two days later, without a date and time being scheduled, I received a phone call from Ms. Harris around 1:30PM for a phone interview. I answered the questions to the best of my ability. Ms. Harris said she would send me an email for an in-person interview. I received the email the same day before 5PM.
Two days later, I showed up to the interview half an hour early. Ms. Harris was smiling all the way through the moment she met me until the end of our interview. I thought I nailed it! I was wrong. I felt like her smile was a set up for my humiliation.
I waited in the waiting room, and the man interviewing me, Chris, didn’t even give me a handshake after greeting me. He said we were going to the basement, which seemed spooky. We entered the conference room and as Chris asked me questions, he seemed genuinely disinterested in what I had to say. I know in interviews you can’t reply with one word answers. Therefore, as I elaborated, I got the sense that Chris was bored. It was the look of disdain that he gave me that suggested he was. I felt like the 10 minute interview was a waste of time.
Two [business] days after the interview (this morning), I checked my email and noticed that I received a rejection email from the company at 12:46AM. Extremely unprofessional! Anyway, I was happy that I went to the interview & made the effort but the location is a joke. Let’s be real. The place where I interviewed may be all fancy because New York University is nearby but reality sets in when you see the homeless men & drug addicts on the corner of the train station. New York will never cease to surprise me.
However, I learned that in interviews, the people are not just interviewing you, you're interviewing them. I'm glad I'm self-aware and noticed the lack of care or concern. Some people aren't meant to be in the healthcare field, yet, there they are. Rejection is protection.
