Group Chats
Updated: 2 hours ago

I have been in graduate school since January of 2026. I was in a group chat within the Signal app with my cohort from the Spring 2026 semester. It was all great and dandy until this Fall 2026 they all started complaining about a residency day we had to be in through ZOOM on a Sunday from 9AM-5PM. It was not that bad but they all had issues with it. More than 100 messages were displayed and my app crashed. I had to delete the app and I took it as a sign from God that it was not necessary nor beneficial to hear a bunch of 20 year olds complaining as if life was so hard. Please! Tell me you are entitled without telling me you are entitled.
Luckily, in that residency day, I was able to communicate with a fellow peer, who was in a WhatsApp group. I asked her if I could join, she agreed and sent me the link. Being in those chats was okay until I accidentally consoled a classmate. She took it as a problem and told me that it was "not so bad" after all. To me, she wanted to appear strong, independent and like a person who does not need help or kind words sent her way. I was just trying to be nice but she showed me that she had an air about her. The same classmate would then go on to say that she reached out to school staff and they were "unresponsive." The specific word triggered me so badly because that was the exact one I used at the 9-1-1 operator to describe my dad who was not reacting to being touched or shaken.
Speaking of my dad, today is the second anniversary of his passing. I want to spend it quietly with my mom. I have things to do around the house but I will get to it later, or maybe tomorrow because I want to spend time listening to music and writing music. All week I was doing homework, so, I deserve a much needed self-care day.
